What To Do About Cold Feet?

Updated on October 31, 2013

Why Are My Feet Always Cold And What To Do About It?

If You are wondering what to do about cold feet, this lens is for you!

There are many reasons why feet are always cold. One of the most important reasons that feet always feel cold is due to the circulatory system. The blood keeps the body warm but blood also provides oxygen and nutrition to our body. Your body knows its priorities. The brain, heart and other organs come first before the hands and feet and the hands. If for any reason, your organs need alot of blood, for example if you have just had a big meal, the body will decrease the supply of blood to your feet and hands and increase the supply of blood to your stomach and intestines. This is a normal, healthy function of your body. This is the reason that, if someone is in extreme cold, the blood supply to the hands and feet will be nearly completely shut off, resulting in frostbite or death of the fingers and toes. The body "sacrifices" the hands and feet in order to preserve life. So, cold feet and cold hands can be due to very normal and healthy reasons. But extremely cold feet and cold hands can also be a sign of a medical problem. If your feet and hands are chronically very cold and very uncomfortable, tingly, blue or painful, see a doctor to find out if you have a medical condition which requires medical treatment. Read below for tips about what to do about cold feet.
